Thank you for your input. I decided that I would have to read this book in PDF format because the Kindle format is not really solved. What happens is I can go to the site (from iPad) where the book is available to download. Then select to download a Kindle format and choose to Open in Kindle. Indeed the book is then opened in Kindle. But I have tons of other books in Kindle and at night read mostly for pleasure. And as soon as I switch from this technical book to another one, the technical book is gone from list of Kindle books. All other Kindle books are permanently on the iPad because I bought them from Amazon. But this one, a free download from the site, does not stay on iPad. Therefore, it is not practical to go back and open it from the site every time. PDF will do for now.
