>>>Certainly interesting - but the big question is, what % of the assets seized by law enforcement was legally contested, how much was "returned/overturned", etc.

>>This is something I've looked into quite a bit as it's happened to a friend of mine who had a cop take several thousand dollars from him because he assumed it was drug money. The problem here is the legal action required to get it back. There really isn't much you can do - and it's not like a typical court hearing. Look into it and you'll be shocked. >I tend to doubt that they'll swiping the lion's share - for the simple reason that they don't have enough power.

But they have the most opportunities. If a cop pulls you over and decides that whatever cash you have is "drug money" and takes it - just what exactly do you think you can do about it? Nothing. Then if you try to get it back - it's not like you can go to court and try it get it back. It's not you that is the target of this, it's the money - so who you are or what you are or if you have proof of where the money came from or where it was going is of no use, because it's not you on 'trail', it's the money. And furthermore there is no 'trail' or judge - you have to convince the folks that took your money to give it back. Good luck with that. Like I said it's a really corrupt messed up system when it comes to these things.
