Scotland is not a great economic power, but they do have a lot of oil and as shown in Norway, you can earn a lot of money there.

The small technical problem is that the Brits own all of the equipment to extract and process that oil. Do you think they will give it all away to Scotland for free as a parting gift? ROFL and LOL!!!!!
