Naomi gave you a solid good advise to change the wrong code. Your arguments as above donot count, if this wrong code clashes one day, one could argue just as well, with full justification, 'that wrong code must have been seen by John when he was fixing this combobox, the facgt he did not alter is neglectanca or careless behavior his side.
To follow Naomi's advise is by no means 'rewriting an entire application' that is surely exaggerating.
