>>>Korea was (is?) probably a good war, on balance. Every South Korean I know says that it was.

Good point about the mothers in Iowa.
50K+ GI's died in Korea and tens of thousands more were wounded.
We tend to underestimate the costs in wounded.
I saw the MASH hospital at the peak of the casualties- fortunately not as a patient- but it was horrifying.
Seeing an 18 year old boy who has lost large sections of his body in combat should be a pre-requistie for anyone who makes war/peace decisions.

Ike, one the greatest commanders in our history, said it well "There is no glory in battle worth the cost in blood."
One of his greatest achievments - largely unrecognized - was to negotiate the Korean armistice- however fragiile- and stop the killing and maiming of the young men on both sides.

>And ousting Saddam from Kuwait also went quite well though it did release his heavy boot from the neck of the sorts of troublemakers who now taunt and attack the West.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
