He was before all a masterful military strategist and tactician.
After the war it was clear to him that our industrial power- and hence our military power- was hampered by an archaic infrastructure.
That was his principal motive for building the interstate system.
It remains the most significant civilian accomplishment since WWII.
We clearly need another Ike.
