>>I did/do not doubt that. The "shake up" was meant not to weaken, but more as a wake up call (if he did not know of the coup attempt in advance).
>>In the last time it was often reported that Erdogan went after people he saw as rivals/enemies via judicial system and was less interested in furthering issues - although the recurring streak of pushing back laizism in favor of religious tasting policies is hard for us to fathom and understand.

>Reportedly, about 6,000 people are under arrest, with only about half of them in the military.

>Also reportedly, over 15,000 Erdogan opponents all told are being dealt with. Makes you wonder if there was a paper-less "list" before the coup even started.
Your numbers are not true:
7.543 persons are arrested.
100 cops, 6.038 military officers, 755 lawyers, 650 civilians.
316 of these persons sent to jail. Others not decided yet.
They are not Erdogan OPPONENTS. They're coup persons. They killed their own people. Some of with bullets. Some of with tanks... People want death penalty back. Actually that means nothing because they did these thinks and a new law cannot be cover past.
