>IMO you cannot beat Chrome/Android in value/money. MS has released Android versions of Office apps, installed here on every device (couple of Nexus7 tablets, some phones with screen size ~5') to ***guarantee*** opening any received docs, but for creating/editing/reading self created stuff I prefer either the Kingsoft or Softmaker Office apps. Still, editing Excel on tablets is a pain (reading is fine!). so I usually edit in trusty Office97 (owning several later versions of MS Office) on a windows VM on a windows PC or laptop. TotalCommander as file manager on Android and WinMachines as well.

>The less editing/data entry surpassing a text msg she needs, the more a tablet is reccommended. Screen size of tablet: try out in a shop offering different tablets, highly correlated with personal capabilities and preferences.

>Personal history: I am kind of rough on the loading USB port, killed 2 in tablets and 1 in smartphone, another one in smartphone only half reliable.
>Went for Qi loading (available for phones: Samsung Galaxy, most LG Gx, most Nexus, in tablets only Nexus 7 AFAIK, so for me one reason of getting a couple of Nexus7) and I love it, having loading stations in every 3rd room and the devices do not tend to hide as much as previously, they tend to cluster at those feeding stations ;-))

Bad part for me: no Qi, needs loading via USB, so ***I*** have to be extremely careful - but I tend to be hard on devices, probably not so important for your girl. Was VERY sceptical at first about the case layout, but within a week of Amazon delivery loved the easy handling, kept it and today prefer to read technical docs or stack overflow on that device. If you can still find an outlet offering it (now with big discount, as a last-year-model), TRY IT.

>Android from version 4 on tablets supports multiple users similar to a PC, so getting 2 devices and installing 2 profiles on each device gives you better usage, as in option to use one if the other is totally empty.

>Laptops: since 2005 have always gotten Fujitsu, now have enough loading stations scattered in rooms and workplaces. At first Amilo, then Lifebook series: consumer prices and quality between consumer and enterprise. Non glare screens available and wide options for CPU and disc.

Thank you, Thomas

Are there keyboards for the tablets?
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
