>I leave clothes at work. This place has no showers but apart from very hot days it not a problem. I'm probably no sweatier than someone enduring the underground in central london at rush hour.. i cycle in at a reasonable pace and then harder cycling home and have a shower then.

Not necessarily. I am sweaty wet very early into excercise, but can go on at a high level in hot summer day much longer than most people. Skunk factor does not happen if there is no old sweat (skin *and* training clothes) around when pouring out new sweat. Drying up inside wet clothes feels icky to me (the same if sweated through or from cycling through a shower) even if they were fresh 30 min ago, but that is mostly tactile. But if the body was showered in the morning plus is used to sweat each day (cleaning out the residuals in pores) will probably be much less offensive than a once skipped early morning shower with no excertion on the way to work.

It does keep the washing machine busy, as 2 or sometimes more fresh sets of clothes are used on such days, but why should that be allowed to idle ?
Way back in my fitter days physicians told me to shower shorter and less often, as once the stuff keeping the skin inside the ears was washed away totally (surprisingly painful occurrence!) and I really dislike smearing stuff cosmetics industry wants to sell me on a freshly showered skin...
