>Of great interest in your article: a respectable seasoned commentator proposes Linux as an option for those who want to maintain control. Granted it's presented as an extreme option and the same sort of MS fanbois who support everything MS here will come up with a galaxy of slogans against this geek OS they've never used, but it does matter when people who value their reputations and industry relationships, are seriously talking about Linux for end users.

>Suggestion to Linux newbies: download one of the latest distros and install on one of those old doorstop machines no longer powerful enough for Windows. Too difficult? Nope. You'll be surprised.

Perhaps one bit of confusion for folks is that there are a mind-boggling number of distros available. It probably doesn't help when the usual answer to "which one should I get" is usually answered with a question (typically "what are you going to do on the computer?" and "what type of applications are you going to use?"). Another factor is also that there aren't too many "off-the-shelf" computers that come with Linux pre-installed (i.e. most folks are probably looking for a "turnkey" computer). There's also the other factor -- where can you go to get help. Most stores might have some sort of technical assistance for Windows or MacOS -- not too many can help you with Linux.
