On one of my projects I'm working with GW 5.2 too. I started down the path of automating GW directly, but abandoned it in lieu of using a 3rd party tool, called IDSMail. I did this because I needed a tool to use with GW as well as other e-mail clients in my consulting work. With IDSMail you can send, receive, and used the address book in GW (and nearly every other e-mail client software). It is very easy to work with also. The web address for more information is
www.intuitive-data.com.
If you need to dig deeper into GroupWise, like into work flow, etc. then I'd suggest taking a look at Novell's developer site (developer.novell.com) and look at the Novell Developer Kit, which contains information about the object API.
