>>Your issue in the US is that lots of weapons with no obvious civilian application are legally out there. And if ever somebody did manage to increase control, otherwise law-abiding citizens would cache the weapons as a patriotic act in defence of the second amendment. Even if there's a new amendment, the rebels would call themselves the only true patriots and build even bigger caches in defense of the republic. After which the weapons will leak out into the criminal fraternity forever.

>>I'm not sure what you can do about it now. You might try the Australian tactic involving a time-limited formal buyback program for weapons now declared illegal, but even without the Supreme Court's interpretations favoring individual right to bear arms, that 2nd amendment is a tough one in the US.

>The solution to the US gun problem is a very long one. Educate the young out of wanting to keep guns. Let the problem die out naturally. Not something that would appeal to politicians who like policies to be effective in 4 year chunks.

I believe European countries are gaining hgher gun density, although clearly not at the level found in the US.
Back in dinosaur age when I was a bouncer/keeping the door to feed me and my car, trouble came in the # of fists and an occasional bottle or other stuff at hand. A couple of years after me switching to easier income knife scars were common, nowadays there is a definite risk of gunshots at the work place. Similar trend seems to exist nowadays in crime circles aiming for "transactions" with a worth of 3 or maximum 4 powers of 10.

I think in GB a similar trend is active, although that might be a media spin.
