With the tendency of newer MS Win-versions to call MS, such practice - while also not-unethical in my eyes - might be more dangerous today and call attention of license hunters. If something is time-critical, ok, but even then today I would fire of an email to MS on the matter of lost keys. With Win10 (partly backported to Win8 and Win7) MS assumes full reading rights on your machines...
