>I'm being facetious. I agree with you.

Be careful. You might be agreeing with dangerous ideas.

I think that Tamar and I have the same objective- to open doors that have been previously closed.

Closed doors are neither ethically nor practically a good idea.

When Tiger won the 1997 Masters by a record margin at Augusta National, the epicenter of white privilege, racism and bigotry, he changed the game- for the better- forever.
And, yes, the fact that he was the son of Earl Woods, a black green beret who had played in the negro leagues with Roy Campanella and couldn't play in the major leagues and couldn't play on many golf courses because he was black, made it a lot more enjoyable to me and millions like me.

Tiger didn't open doors. He blasted them into oblivion.

But, Tiger did it by playing the best golf anyone - white, black or green- had ever played up to that point.

So yes- capability trumps identity- but - given capability - identity matters- a lot.
It matters that a black kid won the Masters. The memberships at Augusta National- and golf clubs around the world- look a lot different today than they did before Tiger's victory and that's important.

However- and this is my point to Tamar - it was his overwhelming victory that allowed us to enjoy all the other goodies.

A lousy golfer who is black, female or whatever, is still just- a lousy golfer.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
