>>>I noticed a couple of months ago that I could identify immigrants in 6 prior generations of my family and decided to write about it:
>>>
>>>How very nice that you can trace you roots in America back to the very early 1800's. My father was a Holocaust survivor and arrived here after he was liberated from Dachau after WWII. My mother was the daughter of two immigrant parents (her father from Germany and her mother from Russia) who arrived in the country shortly after WWI. So we have something in common. We are both the daughters of immigrants....

>>Yep. I thought you knew my mother's story. She was very fortunate to get out of Germany when she did. I've written about her story in more detail:

>Very nice. It is really good that you have ancestor's pictures. I've been working on my tree for the past couple of years. I started on Ancestry.com but have moved to FamilySearch.org. I'm making the argument to put things there, just to test the validity of my thinking. You have a comprehensive history, but is it in a place where others can access it? Ancestry is the most popular, but it probably has more abandoned work than active trees. And each person has their own tree. The DRY notion is not followed, (everyone is repeating). Just curious about your take on family trees.

I haven't actually built my own family trees. I'm very fortunate (as I indicated in the acknowledgements) that other folks have done some of it. The Stern book has a lot of the early history. The most comprehensive of all is the one maintained by a distant cousin. On my list is discussing her plans for her work.

What I have been doing over the last 6 years is scanning a lot of stuff and then putting it in the cloud where my relatives can access it. So far, I've done mostly photos, but ultimately I hope to scan hundreds of letters and other documents I have in boxes here. (And someday, maybe even our personal pre-digital photos.)
