I really don't think this has much to do with race. I remember many of the comments about Martina Navratilova, especially after she "bulked/muscled" up - and that was before the days of social media.

It's too bad we'll never see a Steffi Graf (in her prime) vs Serena Williams (in her prime). It would be a great match-up of styles.

Clearly, Serena is one of the greatest of all time, but her behavior and bad sportsmanship are bad marks against her. And she probably regrets her badly-chosen words on the Steubenville rape cape from a few years ago. (And in the "I wonder if people would make those comments about Serena if she were white", I wonder how much worse the reaction would have been, had a man made the same comments about that rape case)
