You make some good points. I'll add a corollary topic here: the famous "women make 77 cents for every dollar a man earns" argument.

I know someone who makes that argument frequently. But the same person has also given specific advice to women to quit their jobs when they are having problems at work - with the argument that "your husband has a good job, so you can take some time off and re-group and look for a better job". Well, if that specific husband/wife/family is able to pull that off, that's fine - but no one giving that advice should also be talking about the problems of so-called pay inequities, since their own advice is contributing to that situation.
