Any thoughts are appreciated as I am going to have to buy a new computer within the next few months and looking for some thoughts to help me decide how to deal with this. I am just making sure it is just not me with concerns or some problems.

I've noticed that Windows 10 is a bit heavier on resource usage than Windows 8.1, which was slightly heavier than Windows 8, which was noticeably lighter on resources than Windows 7, which was noticeably lighter on resources than Vista. Overall, Windows 10 seems to be lighter on resources than Windows 7. I was pleasantly surprised when upgrade to Windows 10 actually worked on an old notebook I had (HP Compaq NC6400 -- it has a "designed for Windows XP, Windows Vista capable" sticker). Didn't notice any degradation in performance. Of course, one factor that probably helped was that I'd performed the upgrade before much had been installed (i.e. it was essentially "factory fresh" -- more accurately "fresh from the refurbisher" -- it was a very "vanilla" installation w/ no pre-installed software). The fingerprint reader doesn't operate however (but that's not any different when Windows 7 was on the system since none of the driver nor software for it were actually installed).

As for compatibility issues -- most were fairly generic issues one would expect from old software (e.g. 16-bit software not supported on 64-bit OS, software trying to write to protected folders, software making assumptions to folder structure, etc.) -- none that were specific to Windows 10 (they would've not worked under Vista nor on 64-bit edition of Windows). Obviously there were the usual issues with finding compatible device drivers.
