My wife and I went there in early 1997 right after our wedding. It was very nice. The hotel was great. We went to Chichen Itza one day, the beach and boating another day, and one day we went to the big shopping areas.

It was a great experience. Food was awesome.

Probably the funniest part - it was in January and the temperatures were in the low-mid 90's, yet the locals were complaining that it was too cold. Our tour guide for Chichen Itza was wearing a sweater in the middle of the day.
