http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/01/nyregion/carnegie-deli-in-manhattan-to-shut-down.htmlWe called the corned beef sandwich at the Carnegie the "Quaduple By Pass" and even I - who had had a quadruple - couldn't resist ordering one, given an opportunity.
It was way up there in the hierarchy of epicurean delights.
My grandsons and many of their friends are vegans and I suppose that that's a good thing so the Carnegie's day has passed, as all days must pass.
In the day, however, aficionados debated into the wee hours - who had the best corned beef or pastrami- The Carnegie - The Stage - Ratners - The Second Avenue Deli?
My Jewish friends from Brooklyn revered Ratners and The Stage, but for me it was always the Carnegie.
I'll get over for one last quadruple. There's nothing like it.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
