What happened after they came out shows exactly why they didn't do so earlier. They've been attacked terribly. Lou Dobbs released one woman's phone number.
Look how long it took for so many Cosby accusers to come out. Even when a woman is attacked by an average guy, she takes a lot of blowback. When your attacker is someone famous, what chance do you have unless there are lots of accusers?
In this case, he admitted on tape that he sexually assaults women. Then women came along telling stories of him doing exactly what he already said he does. FWIW, in the NYT story, they talked to friends and relatives of the women, who'd been told of the attacks long ago.
