Be very careful with using the Internet as a network as performance of a VPN or WAN is going to be **A LOT** slower than a local network in most cases. If you're dealing with large files performance becomes unacceptable very quickly when using FoxPro data.
Another option is to build a service to accept and return data. This can often be much more efficient as only the actual result data travels over the wire not the entire data set. THere are a number of ways to do this - using a Web server among the most prominent and viable. Also using some sort of SQL backend makes for much better performance over a WAN for the same reason.
