I think you are an exception. Most Americans who were learning Spanish in school, don't go past "hello" and "how are you". Spanish is a great language. Funny thing is that now I am learning French watching youtubes where Spaniards who live or lived in France teach Spanish speaking people. And now I have even better appreciation and understanding of Spanish (although I am not really fluent).
