Tamar, sorry, but this is the kind of nonsense that Melissa Harris Perry used to push. She used to downplay physical violence against buildings if no one was injured.

In most parts of the country there are going to be laws against burning (and destruction of property). "Rioting" almost sounds like a political term. The bottom line is that people can and should be arrested and charged for burning effigies and destroying property - regardless of the whim of people like MHP and her followers.
