>>It was a pleasure to hear him say that he now considers the people in the North fellow Irishmen and vice versa.

Since Northern Ireland voted to stay in the EU rather than Brexit, I wonder whether the two sides might formally unite. Otherwise that border is destined to be *the* land border between the UK and EU.

People despairing at Trump might consider that in easy living memory there was dreadful sectarian hatred and violence in Ireland. The IRA mortared the Houses of Parliament in London to prove a point one time. Imagine that today. Surely all things shall pass.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
