The story I read in the NYT said that she thought that they had the race in the bag and when Comey made his announcement, the polls went south.
I refuse to say anything more nasty about her, so I'll just look the facts as she lays them out.
She says that they thought they had the race wrapped up till Comey made his announcement and therefore Comey lost the race for her.

If, in an 18 hole golf match, I have a one shot lead going into the last hole and, and my opponent's second shot, while flying out of bounds, hits a tree, bounces off another tree, hits a rock, and flies into the hole and wins the match for my opponent, I didn't lose because my opponent was insanely lucky- although he certainly was.
I lost because over the four+ hour course of the match, I took one more shot than my opponent.
My opponent won because on the prior 17 holes he put himself in a position that would let him win with insane luck.
No one shot wins or loses a match.

Her lead, if she had it, was insufficient to handle the Comey event - if there was one.
That's why she lost.

Trump is a competitve golfer.
There's an axiom used by competitive golfers:
"Never underestimate your competitor's abilty to surprise you by making a great shot, or by screwing up royally."
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
