>But distributing real estates taxes equally wouldn't actually be fair funding. The underlying problem, of course, is poverty, and the fact that poor kids come to school needing so much more than other kids. We've delegated most of that responsibility to the schools instead of doing the work to lift families out of poverty.

Try as we may, we can't avoid the fact that we villified people like Sessions for not doing what you say above doesn't work.
The difference is that in the first case, the people getting more money were all white.
That's argumentative. I know, but we liberals have a tendency to see things one way.

If more money led to better school outcomes, this would not have happened:

In the accounts I read, some of the money went to getting secretaries for secretaries.

Try and explain to the people of Hamilton why they should pay part of their taxes for more of that.

Yes, poverty is certainly an issue, but we won't solve it in the schools.
We can do a lot about poverty with good economic policies- like those that Bernie espoused.
Economic policies, not social polices, require our focus.
Forget about what pronouns we use, who can marry whom or who can pee with whom.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
