Fair warning: no first hand knowledge here ;-)

Azure seems to offer less performance on equal/comparable HW. Also Rick has posted here some of his misgivings ;-)

Also take the time to calculate cost - while the idea to get valuable service for free/subsidized forever is ludicrous,
sometimes the prices reached at moderate work load differ a lot, so more than 1 expected growth path should be calculated
