People don't even want equal outcomes.
Each person has their own preferences, and many of us are part of groups that influence our preferences.
English professors are less likely to want goats and chickens around.
Some migrants from rural Mexico may think having property out in the country and large enough to have goats and chickens is their ideal.

Even more than that - and exactly what Dr. Carson was writing against:
The idea is that all children want to join the chess club and all children want to play football.
It is absurd on the face of it - not every person wants the same things.
Not every group wants the same things.
But it is the precise idea on which "disparate impact" rests.
