Actually I don't think we were even "promised equal opportunity" except by the left.
During my senior year of high school I was mopping floors while my cousins were filling out their applications to Harvard.
I think that had a lot to do with their father working at his business and my father eating in soup kitchens.
So what?
The only way to equalize starting positions would be to tear them down from their relative privilege.
That would not be fair to my uncle who worked hard and EARNED advantages for his kids.
Bravo for him.
I think we were promised more like "equality before the law."
