>>Seeking an abortion isn't getting an abortion, and the Guttmacher study only shows that some women have abortions of choice after 20 weeks. One thing the paper doesn't say is what kind of facilities they went to to find the women. My impression is that late-term abortions for fetal viability or maternal health reasons are more likely to happen in hospitals, not abortion clinics. Not clear at all where they looked.

>You're correct, there are things the Guttmacher study doesn't point out. And even the links Marcia provided are open to some marginal debate.

>But you miss the point: the study states that the reasons stated in the final trimester were similar to the first trimester. You're basically surrendering to my original statement, which was that there's no hard evidence to back HRC's claim that virtually all abortions that occur in the 3rd trimester are for medical necessity. Even fact check sites have pushed back on HRC's claim.

>And as for the "there's a difference between seeking an elective late term abortion and getting one", the Gosnell case (and the cases of other abortion doctors who have faced legal consequences for violating laws) have certainly demonstrated that some who seek to get an elective late term abortion will eventually find a way. Sadly, grand jury testimony pointed out (with documented proof) that moderate state administrations are fearful of going after butchers like Gosnell because they fear coming across as pro-life radicals. Geez, I wonder what political groups could have struck that kind of fear into them? I'll give you a hint....they all report to the DNC).

>Actually, given your strong stated support of LGBT, I would think your position would be different. Many gay married couples want adopt. (I know two gay couples who eventually were able to adopt and they are good parents). See where I'm going with this???

There are plenty of children who need homes. Forcing women to bear children in order to make them available for adoption is unconscionable.

FWIW, my extended family includes a number of adopted children. Four of them were adopted via the foster care system. One of my cousins has two adopted children, and fostered many more. (AAMOF, we had foster kids in my home growing up. I think it was one of the ways my mom paid forward her having survived the war.)
