>Is Medicare a single payer plan?
>
>Yes, it is. And look at how well that is functioning. More and more doctors are refusing to see new Medicare patients. And if you want adequate health coverage, you still need to buy a Medicare supplement.

I live in a retirement community. Everyone I know is on Medicare.
I know that some psychiatric procedures (some, frankly, of questionable value) are not covered by Medicare and I sure that there are others but I've never heard of them.
My most rabid right wing friends love Medicare.
If you cancelled Medicare, every hospital and rehab center I know of in this area would close within a year.
Before Medicare and Medicaid, children of parents with lingering illnesses were forced to spend their entire life savings in some cases to pay for their parents's care.
I saw that happen in several cases.

By any measure, Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security are the most successful social programs in this country's history.

As I've noted several times here, the system is being gamed by health care bureacrats and some- not all by any means- providers who prescribe unneeded meds and procedures.

I'd support a means-tested increase in the Medicare deductible as a way of getting people to pay more attention to what the providers are ordering.

Insurance companies add no value and syphon off profits.
I don't see why my children can't be allowed to buy into Medicare.
Except for serious war wounds, I'd also like to see the horribly inefficient VA medical system abolished and replaced by Medicare subsidies for Vets that would allow vets to get the care they need where they want to get it.

>Of course - and it is doing even worse than Medicare. There are very few doctors that will see Medicaid patients.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
