Not used mapx. Try also mapobjects from ESRI (www.esri.com). I'm using its evaluation version since Michelle Cox told there was such a control (would set it as standart for our institute but national distributor shocked me with the prize - 4-7 times expensive than US market depending on version).
Also there the sample codes are in VB, Delphi and C++. VFP samples are simply empty. But especially the Delphi code is understandable and easy to convert to VFP.
