I used to ride motorcycles a lot. When the Japanese motorbikes first came over they were called "jap crap" the tyres where called "bridgestone nylons" because they didn't stick to the road. The bikes improved very quickly as the Japanese redesigned and improved quality and invested heavily in production equipment. The British bike industry sat back and watched a few years later virtually had disappeared as the Japanese bikes where better in every way.
