Have you taken a look at what plugins/extensions you've got installed in the browser?
I got rid of stuff like Quicktime, Adobe Flash, Adobe Shockwave, etc. because they were more trouble than they were worth (e.g. invisible instances of browsers that were being launched and couldn't be shut down).
