Good question.
The short answer is- not very much.
I've always admired people - you and Tamar for example - who learn these things for the sake of learning them, but that's not in my DNA,
I make strategic decision early - like switching to SQL Server or .NET but I've just learned what I needed to solve the problem at hand and get the bill to the client.
If I hear about something that works better, the next time I need something like that, I use it.
That's why I go to conferences and read posts here.
Tamar talked about CTE's and soon after I had a problem that they solved perfectly.
Lots of good stuff in these new releases, but I'm not the kind of person that will read about them without a billable problem in front of me that forces me to find a new way to do something.

Not perfect, I know, but I got some pretty good - far from perfect- but pretty good- systems running out there.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
