>>>>I do backup to an external hard drive. But they say it is a good idea to have a back up outside of the place of work (for me my home office), just in case. I can backup to a USB drive and put it in the bank safe deposit but it would require frequent trips back and forth. This is why I thought that a back up to a cloud (maybe once a week) would not be a bad idea. I have not checked what is available and the cost yet. So it is just a thought.

>>>Main risks I try to guard against is stolen HW plus backup stolen as well, therefore redundancy on premise and 2 vaults.

>>>A-Bomb will probably kill me as well, as my lineage is not that close to cockroach, for the rest security is in redundancy ;-)

>>You are right about having concern of security of cloud services. All your suggestions makes sense. But I am concerned that if I put the backups in different places in the house, I won't find them when I need to :).

>In the house I follow a specific ant trail from one storage space to the next, so I will find the latest not stolen one just by following that trail. Storages besides the the safe are just in different places, including one acknowledging some smarts Poe wrote about. As each disc is unique, I do not even have to attach post-it notes, I can log the backup date with the code word for the specific disc and specify full or incremental backup ;-)

>Might seem borderline paranoid, but in the early nineties there was a break-in, computer was partially disassembled, HD gone as well as some DAT tapes used by SCSI streamer back then - interesting thing was that shrink-wrapped tapes were left while used tapes were gone - but they missed the redundant place, which had at least part of the work from that month missing on the (back then) single bank vault version.

>About 18 month later there was another break-in attempt, this one when I was in the house. That one probably was not computer related, as their tools were hammer and large screw driver, but they awakened me into bull terrier / berserker mode...

Wow. Have you thought about moving to a safer neighborhood? :) I am also a little paranoid since one of our garage door tends to open by itself; sometimes in the middle of the night. One of these days I will put the gun right on my night table :)
