I have a situation which I am trying to find the source of the problem. Two products, having their own Web site and their own database, sit on the same SQL Server. At the same time, they experience inabilities to perform a write in the database. I can confirm several hits towards IIS were affected in both products during that situation. On all those hits, they were able to perform SQL exec commands. But, as soon as they arived at the insertion of a new record in a table, they had to wait. The issue last for about a minute or two. When the ability to write on SQL Server became active again, all those hits were processed instantly.
So, this is external to the products themselves. We also verified spikes during that timeframe and none were reported. No Event Viewer logs were issued.
So, this raises a few questions:
1. Is SQL Server performing break time as is, sometimes, which could cause such issue, from a side effect or some kind of storage unit malfunction at the write level?
2. If this sits on a VM environment, can external factors, out of our control, thus out of our environment, could have caused this?
