>> except you're missing the most important part of the story. The school superintendent of this school in Wapiti, Wyoming said there is no gun for grizzly bears nor would there ever be because they don't need one as they have other (smarter) ways of dealing with them and 'the anti-grizzly-bear fence seems to do the trick.', Plus guns are often ineffective against the animals - something I understand that Politifact has pointed out. Oh and that school has a strict anti-gun policy as well. There is no need to put a gun in a school to protect you from bears - Montana included. They've got it under control already. It's just another example of just how unfit this lady is for the job.

Whether the decision is left to the state or school as she advocates, or from behind a government desk in Washington, the same outcome is achieved in this case. Where is the victim? Where is the disadvantaged child? How does it make her unfit?

>>That is the last of my concerns. Considering the budget of the department I think they can cough up the money to hire someone qualified and pay them. Not saying they need to pay them as much as say a college football coach makes - but that is another discussion hahaha

Yes, but it means that she's old school. It's an obligation and honor to serve, not an opportunity to amass wealth and power. While some 1%ers are always sniffing for more wealth, I think she's one of the incorruptibles who already have more money than she knows what to do with. So she gets to ponder what is best for the portfolio and not for herself.

>>I'm not saying she doesn't have some good qualities as a person - she does indeed. I watched the entire hearing not just a few minutes worth of snippets. She is just not the right person (or qualified) to do the job and it's pretty clear that is the case.

You keep saying that - but why? Educate me, you know I'll pay heed. ;-)

Let me help: she seemed unaware of the concept of test scores measuring growth vs proficiency, which matters a lot in the new "Every Student Succeeds" act. That should be a softball question. Not a great look. Worse, she stumbled over the Individuals with Disabilities IDEA legislation, inappropriately advocating devolution to the states and referring to voucher exchanges that are not well liked, before admitting she may have confused it with some other act. Bad- that IDEA legislation is the foundation of modern education for disabled kids and they need to hear she's going to protect it. Since one of those at the hearing is mother to a disabled child, DeVos ought to have expected this. So that wasn't reassuring either.

HOWEVER- few cabinet members know everything about their portfolio from day 1 and if DeVoss had been better briefed, would that guarantee better performance? IMHO: just as it's more telling to assess a company's merit when things go wrong rather than when it's smooth sailing, maybe we should look at wannabe politicians in the same light. "You goofed, Betsy, so what will you do about it?" I'd hope she's knocking on many stakeholder doors explaining that as we speak. Otherwise if she loses any more GOP support, she may suffer the indignity of not being confirmed.

>>It's well over 200 MILLION dollars to the GOP and somewhere between 60,000-$130,000 to the Clinton Foundation. Of course one is a political party ($200 million) and the other is a charity (at most $130,000) so I think my point here is still valid. You are dealing with an element here that donates 20 times as much money to a political party as they do a charity - that alone should tell you something.

It tells me she comes from a rich extended family. Also, it was Sanders who guestimated $200M but she says she doesn't know. Can you point me to Sanders' source?

>>mmm I disagree - She has no experience of any kind related to this job - personal or professional. A doctor doesn't need to be a female to be an obstetrician - but they do need to be a doctor, so I think your comparison might be flawed :)

Warren's implication was that lacking personal experience in public education, loans or banking are strikes against her. Aka the experiential fallacy. However- just as a good manager from an ice cream company can do well in healthcare once they learn the ropes, so may DeVos have abilities that will allow her to overcome teething troubles and do a good job. I don't know the answer.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
