>>Except that currently nearly nobody promises that anymore... hope for fast returning (or at least guaranteed deportation) of those identified/suspected as unwanted.

As those Yankees like to say: you cannot un-ring a bell. There are hundreds of thousands of undocumented migrants who made it all the way to Germany, some of whom now threaten revolt unless provided with residency, new houses and jobs because they have no intention of ever leaving. Quite the opposite: many young men have dossiers of relatives and elderly parents they expect to bring across for family reunification. There's videos of angry young men complaining that a EU300 weekly grant only lasts him 2 or 3 days so he needs more as well as a good job despite not speaking German. Others lecture native Germans that Germany now is a multicultural paradise so if you don't like it, leave. Meanwhile in Sweden, government is sponsoring TV ads proclaiming that native Swedes need to integrate with the new arrivals rather than the other way around, in support of the new Sweden.

BTW, while European leaders are very good at scolding Trump, there's another European nation that gets almost no publicity: Slovakia. Premier Fico says that "Islam has no place in Slovakia" and refuses to take a single refugee. At the end of 2016, legislation was passed that effectively prevents Islam even registering as a religion in Slovakia. So why isn't the name "Fico" as well known as "Trump" in the protest gallery? Where are the protests and dis-invitations? To paraphrase Matthew: "You hypocrite! Remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother’s eye."

From my safe locale at the end of the world, I understand exactly why some Yankees look at Europe with trepidation and believe you have a death wish. FWIW there are lots of Iranian refugee doctors and other professionals in NZ as well as more recent arrivals at the rate of seven hundred per year. Relations between Muslims and others are mostly very cordial, apart from the very occasional need to intervene if a zealot starts under-educating girls (because they need less education than boys) or deviating from the curriculum. The other observation is that because NZ trades so heavily with Muslim nations, a lot of NZ food is certified Halal.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
