>>Yup. My mistake for misreading the name, though I am pretty sure that the meaning of my comment does not change if you replace one name with the other.

I think it matters quite a lot if the person the story is about, calls it a complete fabrication when they get a chance to respond. For the record, the article described at length a purported feud between Homeland Security (Kelly) and the White House (Bannon) about Trump's immigration order.

Not seeking response from the target/s of a sensational story is more fairly described as a "hit" rather than responsible/non-partisan journalism.

Whether the target had the opportunity to respond also is highly relevant when news media is defending a charge of defamation, fwiw.

>>IMO, the MSM moniker is dangerous. Some took it further and now just call it "the media", and then subject it to rules inferred from exceptions like the one you mention above.

As I noted, this WaPo story is merely the latest in a series of fake news reports. Why call it an "exception" when it's actually become an "expectation?" Sheesh, even the latest "destroy Donald Trump" secret playsheet (that has been leaked, lol) acknowledges the decay of journalism and loss of MSM credibility, preferring to move the planned hits to other venues where they can have more effect.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
