>>>Nixon or Reagan
>
>Actually Goldwater, accepting his nomination for President in 1964. ;-) That same year, another fellow called "Johnson" addressed Congress with sentiment that seems just as useful and pertinent today, even if poor old JFK's legacy is tarnished by time:
>
>We have in 1964 a unique opportunity and obligation -- to prove the success of our system; to disprove those cynics and critics at home and abroad who question our purpose and our competence.
>
>If we fail, if we fritter and fumble away our opportunity in needless, senseless quarrels between Democrats and Republicans, or between the House and the Senate, or between the South and North, or between the Congress and the administration, then history will rightfully judge us harshly. But if we succeed, if we can achieve these goals by forging in this country a greater sense of union, then, and only then, can we take full satisfaction in the State of the Union.
>
>Here in the Congress you can demonstrate effective legislative leadership by discharging the public business with clarity and dispatch, voting each important proposal up, or voting it down, but at least bringing it to a fair and a final vote.
>
>Let us carry forward the plans and programs of John Fitzgerald Kennedy -- not because of our sorrow or sympathy, but because they are right.
>
>In his memory today, I especially ask all members of my own political faith, in this election year, to put your country ahead of your party, and to always debate principles; never debate personalities.

>
>In case you're wondering - yes I am going back through presidencies and elections. What an extraordinary series of articulate thinkers for the most part. Even Dubya has some fine sentiment if you push through the hostile MSM reporting. So far: IMHO Trump needs to give a really good polished speech to Congress at the first opportunity. His inauguration speech actually was comparatively good despite the MSM panning, but he needs to deliver an absolute masterpiece that can baffle critics today and stand the test of time. And he does need to bypass the MSM because they've never EVER been so partisan as they are today (at least as far back as 1964 that I've reached so far, with slim pickings before that.)

Goldwater was my next choice.
Yes, it's a good idea to look back at history.
Recently I went back further and read Jon Meacham's awesome biography of Andrew Jackson.
Do you think Trump is crude?
Try Old Hickory!

Meanwhile, here's a link to a couple of roses to you and everyone else here for Valentine's day.

Love makes the world go round.
