>Good Morning all. I am using that encryption code that someone put out there for VFP to use as a few small functions which works with the CHR() function and ASC() adds a few values together. It is basic but works very well and was a very appreciated share to the community. I am sure many of you know the one I am talking about, it uses variables called lcRaw and lcEnc.

>Anyway, here is the issue am having. I used this and stored the value in a field in a table. The field value of the table is a basic character 30. Not binary, just a regular char 30. Been using it for a while now. The encryption function has been working fine and converting the values out fine and the programs operational. The table is also marked as read only as to insure no changes were ever made to this table. For some reason my program started producing errors at the point of the encode, so I looked into it. When I looked into the values on the table, the encrypted values on the table visually appear different then a table I have saved from a few months back. The field value on the one a few months back is reg char 30 as well. I appended all the records from the online table into the older one and I see the transition spot with the same encrypted value with some solid bars on some characters (good) and then not on online data (other characters) incorrect (does not work). So I am able to copy and paste the correct value from the older one above onto the record below, corresponding, and it overwrites correctly (good thing there are few records in this table). After doing this I deleted all the records above then packed. Put that table back in online later at night and everyone was good the next day.

>Here is the problem, When I would take that value that was good with the solid bars from the older table and try to paste it in the field on the online field spot, it would automatically change to the incorrect one, so something was strange with either the records or the format of that table. Now appending the records into the older one and fixing it with the older one made it better which still leaves me wondering what it was. Here is the other issue. I sent the fixed version of the table over to my co worker who has VFP installed on his machine and asked him to pull it up and see how it appeared to him visually, and to him it appeared the incorrect way. This concerns me, What can cause the values to display differently in the character field like this?

Font or character set, maybe?
