The people I know in my children's generation, however, are having a hard time providing for their retirements.
>These are hard-working, well-educated professionals who live modestly, but their incomes simply have not kept up with skyrocketing living costs and they can't save the way I could.>
>Perhaps my POV might be a little different if I had children. Neither Andy nor I have any.
Things have changed a lot.
With one income my wife and I put two children through private colleges without putting a serious dent in our savings.
My son and daughter-in-law - both well-paid professionals who routinely put in 10 hour days and six day weeks- couldn't possibly do that for my grandsons and they have two incomes.
College costs, medical costs and housing costs have skyrocketed while incomes have lagged.
That doesn't allow for the level of savings that my generation could maintain.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
