Actually, the latter should be 1252 (western), but I could be wrong, because I have skipped many messages in this thread. The 1250 is central and east european, and 1251 is cyrillic.

OTOH, I disagree with the whole thread. This is destruction of data. This is going in a completely wrong direction. Instead of enabling the output to display the information in full, with all the proper native (not foreign!) characters, this is about removing them and basically leaving the end user with disinformation.
