Hi Nick:

Do not confuse backup with Source Control. Source Control does backup --implicitly-- with every checkin, but it's a lot more than that.
Even if the developer is only one, a backup can't substitute a Control Source, simply because you can't compare a history of changes with it.

Suppose you need to track the changes done some days ago, what do you do? restore the backup ov every day and compare? Could be very time costly. With Source Control (any tool, even old SourceSafe is better than no Source Control!) you just select a point in time and Diff, then go back to previous changeset and Diff...

Well, you have options and the tools. Hope you take advantage of them.
