>>>Kevin is correct.
>>>The news coverage is biased against Trump.
>>>Immediately after Trump was elected the New York Times started a weekly report on hate crimes in the US.
>>>There was no such report when Obama was president.
>>>That's trashy journalism - anticipating an effect.

>>Is it possible that hate crimes have been on the rise, and that the fact is prompting the journalism?

>How could the NY Times have known that they would rise before he took office???

I think the explanation and justification for it is found in their own article:
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/17/opinion/why-we-need-a-project-to-document-hate-crimes.html?rref=collection%2Fcolumn%2Fthis-week-in-hate&action=click&contentCollection=opinion®ion=stream&module=stream_unit&version=latest&contentPlacement=5&pgtype=collection

Their first paragraph:
"Reliable data on hate crimes is hard to come by. As reports of racist, anti-Semitic and Islamophobic harassment and attacks poured in after the election of Donald Trump, many Americans wondered whether they represented a nationwide increase in hate crime. While the Southern Poverty Law Center saw a dramatic increase in reports after the election, it’s not yet clear whether this indicates a nationwide trend."
