Imagine if Obama or you or I had to live our lives afraid to misspeak because detractors will conflate single words or concepts, ignoring your actual message to smear you forever as a buffoon or liar. Sounds like a dystopian disaster scenario to me.

If such a speech at a rally speech is intended to be streamed to the net, different standards apply to the elected politician.
IIRC Flynn had set making Trump messages more precise as one of his targets back in 2016, which I guess came double whammy from his military and intel expirience. Maybe that is the real reason he was thrown to the wolves ;-)

And I think it is a healthy response to check Trump MORE, as he does not even reign in his self-congratulating figures of speech and in my perception has almost never acknowledged having done a mistake. Closest I have seen was his backpedaling on size of victory after Reagan - saying he was given wrong figures, which is offloading the error into some other lap. IF his speech was given to some underling to fact-check, the blame should not fall on Trump (alone), but somehow I believe the statement never went into a vetting circle ;-)
