For the purposes of collecting statistics, the FBI has defined a hate crime as a “criminal offense against a person or property motivated in whole or in part by an offender’s bias against a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, or gender identity.” Hate itself is not a crime—and the FBI is mindful of protecting freedom of speech and other civil liberties..."

Bill,
I'm not sure I know what exactly we're talking about.
Do you mean that if gender is intrinsic to the definition of sex, then sexual abuse/assault is by definition gender related? But, if rape is not only sexual abuse, then it needs a more complete definition, and that's what I thought you are asking for. Otherwise, I guess everything can be eventually diminished to the absurd.

For example, here is the first paragraph for Sexism from Wikipedia
"Sexism or gender discrimination is prejudice or discrimination based on a person's sex or gender. Sexism can affect any gender, but it is particularly documented as affecting women and girls. It has been linked to stereotypes and gender roles, and may include the belief that one sex or gender is intrinsically superior to another. Extreme sexism may foster sexual harassment, rape, and other forms of sexual violence."

According to the National Institute of Justice, the term "hate crime" was coined in the 1980s by journalists and policy advocates who were attempting to describe a series of incidents directed at Jews, Asians and African-Americans.
Since then, legislation has been introduced, and now 49 states have hate crime statutes.

Do you mean there is no value in defining such terms?
