>>Another interesting development is homeless hostels. My son does volunteer work overnight at a hostel in London and many of the people using it are not "down an out" as you'd expect. They have menial low paid zero hours contract jobs and its the only place they can find and afford to live.

For most of those menial zero hours roles, I'd say they are doing things right there in London, meaning that their employers and customers do need them to live locally. In which case a homeless hostel for a working person, is very sad. Quoting from Timothy: "Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn... and the labourer is worthy of his reward." Seems to me that capitalism has swung far too far towards the 1% and Timothy's truism is forgotten. The truth is that the top 1% of the 1% could release half of their wealth back to workers and it would make zero, nada difference to the donors' lives, only to already ridiculously large numbers on a screen.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
